Odds and Ends and whatever else

Just wanted to jot down some odds and ends and whatever else was on my mind tonight.

1. I am getting all the paperwork together for our new house here. I am getting excited but you know how it goes. We need this ; o and we need that. The house passed inspection except for 2 things the electric plug coming into the house is frayed needs changed and the radon test failed. We said we would fix the plug if they fix the radon because they will have to do it anyway. I want to get excited but I can't just yet.

2. My husbands company is paying to move all our stuff here so DH is hiring a moving company. They will go into my house in SC. Pack everything and move it to the new house. All we have to do is set it up in new place. They even put beds and stuff together. Can't wait!

3. I love the holidays but lately it is not the same for me. My kids are grown and moved away with their families. As you know I lost my darling grandmother this year. I want to decorate like crazy to make up for it. I will do that in my new house!

4. MY precious grandson Ethan is having a hard time at school. There were some bullies picking on him. He started defending him self and now they are saying HE is aggressive! He is definitely not!! He is the kindest sweetest, loving boy but he will defend himself. Pray for him please.

5. One of my other precious grandsons Nate is having some physical problems. He has had several colds and ear infections in his 11 months of life. Doctor's think he may have asthma and need tubes in his ears. Pray for him too please.

6. My other two grandson Asher and Remy sweet as can be can always use prayers.

7. I am so blessed in so many ways why do we always tend to look at the bad things in life instead of focusing on the GOOD Blessings!!!

Thank you Lord for all my many blessings!!!
Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Wednesday Hodge Podge

Ok, so I am a little bit early! That's a first for me!

1. What song reminds you of a specific time in your life and what is it about that song that makes you remember?

The song "You Can Tune a Piano but You Can't Tune a Fish" by REO Speed wagon reminds me of a road trip my hubby and I took way before we were married. We took a trip to Myrtle Beach SC July 4th weekend with out making a reservation. Boy was that wrong... Needless to say by 6pm that night we were in NC hotel because we were up all night driving the night before and spent all day playing at the beach when we found out there was NO PLACE to stay...We listened to that cassette tape all the way down and back.

2. What's something you've given up on?

I gave up on loosing weight. I have tried and tried and tried. I've done Weight Watchers, South Beach, Jenny Craig, Nutra System and what ever else is out there I have no problem loosing weight just keeping it off once I loose it. Now I just want to be healthy. I joined the YMCA to exercise a bit and I just wanna get healthy.

My family. My husband and kids and my mom, dad, step mom brothers and sisters. We have our differences at times but we are family

4. If you had to cook something from scratch in the next hour what would it be?

7. I can't believe I ___________________.

Am thinking about getting another job. All this orientation and I am thinking about applying for another job. This morning it took me TWO HOURS to get to work! I left a half hour early and was still late. Its just to far to drive so I am looking closer.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

We are buying a house AAAAHHH!!!!! The inspector is coming tomorrow. We close on Dec 10 but they ask to stay for a few days more we move in Dec 16. We are hiring a moving company so all we have to do is unpack! I am so excited I keep driving by the house.

Hodge Podge Wednesday

1. Of all the tools and gadgets you own which do you most enjoy using?

I love my ipod! It is one of my favorite gadgets. I listen to audio books in the car all the time as I drive back and forth to work.

2. When (if ever) is impatience a virtue?

In patience a virtue??? HMM never heard that one I have to think about it a minute. let me go get some coco and think about this one....... I can not think of any reason why impatience would ever be a virtue. When I think of in patience I think of someone who looses control that is not a virtue.

3. What temperature do you keep your thermostat set to in winter? Do you have another way to heat your house besides a furnace of some type?

In SC we kept our thermostat at 68 in the winter and 75 in the summer. I have not been through a winter here yet; so I do not know where we will set it. We had a gas fireplace in SC we used it one year only.

4. Do/did you have a close relationship with any of your grandparents?

I had a very close relationship with my grandmother who just dies this summer. She was the typical Italian grandmother who loved you with food. I only wish I could cook like her. She was a wonderful lady and I miss her terribly. She lived with me for about a year when I mom got sick and moved in with me.

Above is my Nana and my mom.

5. When did you last have a family portrait taken?

The last family portrait of my family was at my son's wedding in 2007. I can't even find it on my computer it is time for another one!

6. What does the word patriotism mean to you?

Patriotism means being proud of your country. It means standing up for God and country. Supporting those who are serving and remembering and honoring those who have served in the past both alive and dead.

7. Do you like to play cards and if so, what's your favorite card game?

When my family gets together we play SPOONS. Both my my husband and kids and with my brothers and sisters. It is a great game that makes us laugh until we run to the bath room.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

Well, we put an offer on a house today! If all goes well we have a NEW HOME for Christmas!!!!

On the Lighter side

I thought after my last serious post I could post something a little lighter so how about hmmm...... Lets see...
I know we can talk Christmas. I LOVE Christmas!! I love giving gifts to people. I love getting them too...

I am looking for an old 1970s silver Christmas tree. Remember the silver trees with the light wheels?
I want to find one. It reminds me of Christmas at my Nana and Pap's house when I was a kid. We used to have so much fun! That was when we still sat in the basement at the kids table. We pretended we were grown and life was so sweet and simple.

That's why I want the tree to remember a simpler time.
I'll keep you posted

A Confident Heart

I started reading the book A Confident Heart by Renee Swope. Her web site is http://reneeswope.com/ for those interested.

I plan to blog about this as I read it because it is so very good and I feel something every woman can use.
Chapter One is titled Discovering the Shadow of My Doubt.
Basically in this chapter Renee tells us everyone has doubt no matter how long you have been a Christ follower. But as Christ followers we can be confident that Christ is there with us and will not leave us. At the end of every chapter are reflection questions and I plan to answer mine here.

1. What is your earliest memory about doubting yourself or feeling insecure?
Wow, talk about getting right to the point. My earliest memory of feeling insecure was when I was 4-5-6ish living on Ella St in Pgh, PA. I still remember a dream I had often then. I would come home from some where and know I was going the right way but nothing was the same all the houses and everything on my street was different. I would go into the house that should be mine but every room was different and nothing was the way it should be. This dream always made me feel insecure because I should know where I live and how to get home because I was a big girl, right? This was years before my parents divorced. I do not remember anything about a home life then. I remember certain incidents but nothing specific.

2. Has insecurity ever kept you from doing something?

Gosh, yes insecurity has kept me from doing many things. I waited to go to nursing school because I did not think I was smart enough to do it. I have never felt the prettiest, I was the fat sister. So I never tried out for stuff like cheer-leading because I was not pretty enough. I was never good at sports so I did not try out for any team because I was not coordinated enough. I still do this to my self every time I take a test because I am not smart enough to do it right. I have been a cancer nurse for 14yrs and know chemo and how to figure it out what all the caculations are I have been doing them for years and years, yet recently I did not pass a chemo test. I did pass it on the second chance but I should not have had to take it twice.

3. Describe how it makes you feel when doubt whispers:
" I can't do this."

"Things never change."
"Its too hard."
"My life is not going to get better."
"I might as well quit."
Crazy as it sounds this is familiar to me and makes me go back home to my place where I am me. I do not have to be anything but me and I can sit in my PJ's and watch TV all day if I want.

4.Describe what happens in your heart when you read God's words:
"Those who hope in me will not be disappointed"(Isa. 49:23)
"See I am doing a new thing" (Isa 43:19)
"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose"(Rom 8:28)
"All things are possible to [her] who believes" (Mark 9:23 NASB).
When I read these verses my heart feel hopeful.

5. What do you think hinders you most from living with God-confidence on a constant basis? Is there a promise listed above that speaks to your greatest need right now?
What hinders me most from living God-confident is my self. I have a running theme in my head that tells me I am not good enough, pretty enough or skinny enough. I am the fat one the failure the looser.
All of the verses above speak to me. I need to keep them in my head and heart so I can combat each negative thought with a verse from above.

6. How would you describe a woman with a confident heart?
One woman came to mind when I thought of the woman with a confident heart. Her name is Nancy, I have known her for a long long time. She helped me when I was a new Christian and is everything I presume a God confident woman to be. She is confident in her faith. She is confident in her gifts and knows how to use them. She loves God and you can see it by watching her live her life. She is positive always and sees God in every situation and follows Him.

7. Read Jeremiah 17:7. What does this verse promise and encourage you to do? Think of one situation where you could live in the power of this promise and describe what that would look like this week.
Trust in the Lord which is very poignant for me know when my life is full of so many unknowns right now. trust that the Lord wants me and Kev to have a nice place to live as much as we want it and He will give us what we ask for in His name if we trust him. What would this look like this week? Well we will decide on a house we like make an offer negotiate a good price and take a leap of faith with confidence that God will take care of us and has our best interest at heart.

So those are the questions for the first week of my study. I will read and reread and live in the promise of Jeremiah 17:7.
