Almost forgot Hodge Podge Wednesday

Ok, I have to admit I did forget it is now 1am on Thursday. But I am posting anyway!
1. What do you do at the first sign of a cold? Will you get a flu shot this year?

At the first sign of a cold I grab my nasal spray for my allergies. It usually is allergies first, then sinus infection. Recently I have gotten some vitamin (of course it is still in SC where everything else is but good news we are headed down next week to get some stuff). I get a flu shot every year I am a nurse and around many sick people. It helps really.

2. What advice can you give about how to conquer fear?

This is a hard one for me because I am deathly afraid of closed in spaces. I am very claustrophobic. I am the crazy person who can not get an MRI. I have also suffered from panic attacks in the past so fear is something I struggle with. I would say the best advice I could give is pray, pray, pray.

3. Share two good things about your life right now.

1. My husband, he is always there for me my knight in shining armor and my biggest fan and supporter.
2. My children and their families, I feel I am truly blessed both my daughter and my son have great families. (I tried adding some pictures but was taking way to long)

4. A hot fashion trend for 2011 is a return to 60s style.....tunics with pants, shift dresses, pencil skirts, cinched waists, bold prints, high necklines and short lengths to name a few. How does this fashion trend fit with your wardrobe and personal style?

I like the tunic and pants, can hide body flaws. Shift dresses and pencil skirts I am not that sure of not into pencil skirts but shift dresses maybe. High necklines would bring back to the above question about fear and claustrophobia can't wear them feel like its choking me; and I am not into short lengths these days. My wardrobe is much like Hodge Podge Wednesdays it is a mix of different things and styles.

5. Were you involved in scouting as a kid? How about as an adult?

I was in girl scouts for 1 year as a cadet. Didn't much like it.

6. Apple, pear, plum, pumpkin....your favorite fall flavor?

I would have to say pumpkin. To eat and decorate.

7. What characteristics do you think are essential in a good teacher?

I think a good teacher is compassionate about her students. She/he has a heart for teaching and wanting to make a difference in children's lives. This question makes me think of my kindergarten, first and second grade teacher (she followed us to second grade) Her name was Sister Cynthia, she was great and really wanted to help us learn.

I am really looking forward to fall weather in Ohio. I have been in South Carolina for 15 years. I have missed the sights and smells of fall.

I remember

Ten years ago today I was working in a Tuesday morning clinic. One of the receptionists ran in to tell us the first tower had been hit. We were shocked and stunned! It seemed like only a few minutes later we heard the second tower was hit. Then the pentagon. Some one ran into the clinic and said a plane went down in Pittsburgh! That's where my whole family was so I picked up the phone on the clinic wall and called my mom at my grandmother's house. The assured me they were OK and the plane had gone down near the airport. We all talked in the clinics about what was happening. I called my husband who was off that day. I was on the phone with him when the first tower went down. he said "O my God, Beck the tower collapsed." We were stunned into silence.
After the last patient was seen I went back into my office and the TV was on. Funny but before that day I did not even realize there was a TV in the office. The news that day went over and over what happened. The pictures were frightening. All the girls in the office were riveted to the TV while trying to get our work done. That evening I went home and went to church, it was the natural place to go. We needed to pray for the those who lost loved ones, the victims and the survivors , our beloved country, our president and the future.

I remember the whole nation pulling together and praying. I remember everyone talking about God and being proud to be an American; didn't matter if they were republican, democrat, ot independant. We stood united. Some have forgotten. I have not forgotten; I remember.

Hodge Podge Wednesday

1. What is one piece of advice you would give a 'just-turning' 21 year old adult?
Do not buy what you can not afford. Do not get/use credit cards unless you can pay them off at the end of each month.

2. Besides cooler weather (or warmer weather, depending on your hemisphere) what is one thing you are looking forward to this fall?
The beautiful leaves and the art work of God's hand. I have missed the fall so much living in SC I did not get the full extent of the fall weather and beauty.


3. What sound lulls you to sleep?

I have a hard time falling asleep. Once I am a sleep I am fine. If anything would lull me to sleep maybe its my hubby's breathing. The snoring annoys me especially when its loud.

4. September is National Preparedness Month...does your family have an emergency 'kit' and/or disaster plan in place?
No but maybe we should now that we are living in a third floor apartment.

6. What's something you've recently learned to do on the computer?
I learn new things all the time now I am learning new charting system at work. Then Oct 15 the system will change as the whole hospital goes computer charting.

7. Is a picture worth a thousand words? Elaborate.
yes a picture is worth a thousand words. Everyone who looks at it has their own interpertation of the picture. Look at Picasso's scream what is she screaming about? Is it fear? Is she happy? Sad?

My daughter and my grandsons are here to visit it is wonderful! I should be working today but could not get to sleep; along with a bad stomach yesterday I am staying home
